My special someone

19 February 2015

A special post about my special someone because today marks our 5 years together. On the one hand I can't believe it's been so long but on the other hand it feels like we've known each other forever. Rens is my high school sweetheart. We met when we were 16. Not by actually talking to each other, but by chatting on MSN - God I miss those good old days. It started with playing stupid games and making silly jokes and ended up with late night conversations and impatiently waiting for him to come online every day. I never expected an innocent crush to grow out to be the best thing in my life.

Like many couples, we've had our ups and downs. But the downs seem to be a thing of the past now. People say that love is a verb and that's really how it works. Through time you get to know each others strengths and weaknesses and you learn to deal with the fact that you as well as the other aren't perfect and that that is okay. In the first two years we were together, we've had some really bad fights. I think mostly because we were still two individuals making our own decisions, without thinking of what was best for us as a couple. But it's through those tough moments that our relationship grew stronger.

I remember my 16-year-old self thinking that he meant everything to me and that I would give everything up for him. While back then, that probably wasn't true. I was quite naive when I was a teenager (well maybe still am). Always watching Disney movies with fairy tale endings and believing in love at first sight. Now I know that you can't genuinely love someone when you've only known them for a few weeks. I love Rens so much more now than I did back then. It's an incredible thing to know that there's always someone there who you can seek comfort with, who supports you and who you can be your true self with. "I love you more and more everyday" may sound like a cliche sentence but it describes perfectly how I feel about him.

This is probably the longest post I've every written and I know that there's a tiny chance of anyone ever reading this but it felt like something I had to do. It's my way of thanking him for being in my life (and btw also for taking most of my blog photos!). He's the most wonderful person and I feel very lucky to have him.

Okay, enough corny talk for now.
Hope you have a lovely Thursday!

  2. What an adorable post. And yes, when you're younger you may be naive, but that's why that evolves as you grow up. And Disney movies might not be the best representation of love in reality, but they are still nice to watch. And cliches are ok, when they fit perfectly. Congratulations on your anniversary!
