Tuscany Travel Diary - Day 1&4: Florence

04 August 2015

I'm back home from seven days in Tuscany and an unexpected trip to London afterwards. I feel revived after seeing so many beautiful places and being able to cross some new things off my bucket list: Watching the sunset in Florence, eating pizza in Pisa and discovering the beautiful Cinque Terre. I made so many memories and I'm excited to share the many, many photos I took with you.

This first set is from the first and fourth day of our trip, which we spent in Florence. We planned on visiting a different city every day but since our apartment was in Florence, we decided to spend some more time there. I always expected Florence to be my favorite out of all of them, but found it to be less charming than smaller cities like Siena, Lucca and San Gimignano. The cathedral and the bell tower are without a doubt phenomenal pieces of architecture and they are the city's highlight. But when it comes to strolling past colorful houses and enjoying a cup of gelato, I prefer the calmer and more authentic streets of Siena.

We did enjoy some very nice gelato at Perché No!, a small gelateria close to the Piazza della Signoria that I definitely recommend. If you're a lover of pretty sunsets, you should also head to the Piazzale Michelangelo across the Ponte Vecchio. It's a little hike but it gets you the best view over the city (at least that I know of). Another option is climbing the bell tower or the cathedral, or both if you're up for it. But I can tell you, climbing 400 steps in the summer heat is quite a challenge! Anyways, that's how far my tips on visiting Florence go!

Have you ever been to Florence? How was your experience?
Next up is Pisa so stay tuned!

  1. Ooh, this was all stunning! And I wish I could scoop that ice cream right of the web, haha;)

And it seems everyone's going to London all of a sudden! Hopefully that means my uncertain plans of going in the Fall will become a reality as well… fingers crossed!
